“SAI is in the dream manifestation business. Working with you to ensure we understand and deliver your dream is the most important thing I do.”
One of the things I love about being an entrepreneur is that I get to wear a lot of hats. I recently read the Dr. Seuss classic, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins to my granddaughter, Caitlin, and it reminded me of my partner, Steve Weiss, and me at SAI.
As one of the Principals, I spend a lot of time on business operations and development, overseeing the financial, legal, licensing, administrative and planning. In this role, it’s good that I wear bifocals, because I focus near-sightedly on business methods to profitably serve our clients and use long range vision to identify industry trends and developments to meet our clients’ and the planet’s changing needs. Things like sustainable green building, universal design and aging-in-place. A key piece of this is facilitating SAI’s team education and then sharing what we learn through public speaking, seminars and workshops. Another is business-to-business networking and partnering to serve our clients in ways that give back to the planet.
The hat I enjoy most is interacting with new clients. I think of it as my “dream catcher” hat. During initial client meetings, SAI’s team asks lots of questions. We focus on what you love about your current house, and how you wish to change it to make it really feel like “Home,” now and for the future. Sometimes clients have trouble determining from conversation and two-dimensional drawings that what’s being planned is what they dreamed. I remember how intimidated I often felt in my early developer years not wanting my contract architects and builders architects to know I didn’t understand them. They have their own language, and like most of our clients, I wasn’t trained in it. A really important part of my job is to make sure this isn’t your experience, to help you understand SAI’s committed to clarity, and to feel comfortable asking and answering questions until we’re all sure we’ve “caught your dream.”
